Our current exhibition is called Earthly Delights by Perth lad Miles Noel. By day Scitech graphic designer by night and weekend, photographer and painter.
Miles defines his Earthly Delights as a beautiful creature of nature that surprises and transcends the everyday and never ceases to amaze.
In this exhibition, similar to his previous 10 Hours Project, his pieces are mostly portraits.
“I generally approach people with angular and dramatic features. It’s hard to say why I choose the people I do, they possess a certain indescribable quality.”
“I never paint people from life though, my process is too lengthy for a single sitting. I get my images from a 2-3 hr photography shoot and their personality comes out during that time.
“I do figure drawing from life when I can, and paint landscapes “Au plein air’ (in the open air) occasionally,” he said.
Earthly Delights showcases a new way of using QR codes to view the creation of the works captured using time-lapse. The QR codes on the flyers will take you straight to these videos.
“I used the same concept with the 10 Hour Project only with these works I didn’t give myself those time restraints,” he said.
View three of the works in progress:
Most of these works were created amongst the trees down south and in a friend’s backyard shed. The pieces are very much informed by nature.
“I grew up in a monstrous garden in Shenton Park and my dad’s a botanist, so this brought about my appreciation for plants.”
The exhibition will run until 17 March and after that you’ll have a chance to view more of his work in an upcoming exhibition called Fragile Flesh.
“The work is done, I just need to find a suitable venue. It explores mortality through portraiture using expressionistic painterly effects.”
All of these works are for sale. Ask your friendly canteen worker for a flyer and to find out more.
